He was absolutely filthy. His body was covered with a thick coating of mud, iced with dirt and debris that he had collected while making his way through the dense underbrush of the forest. Ugh, he thought, feeling the mud collect in his armpits as he ran. I need to find somewhere to wash this all off. Sure, he was a bit of a slob, but this was going overboard.
Milo slowed his ground-eating lope, and listened to the buzz of the forest. Leaves whispered their stories as the wind danced through them, a soft hum of insects going about their business…and something else, he couldn’t quite place. It was loud, like thunder except continuous…suddenly something sparked in his mind, it was obvious! A waterfall! His tail waved in the air at his detective work, and he followed his ears to the source.
Well, he was some what right. What he had presumed to be a waterfall was actually large rapids, that tumbled down a hill of rocks, and a small waterfall at the end. But there was no calmer water around. As he padded closer, he folded his ears against his head. The noise was loud enough to stop a person from hearing their own thoughts. Tentatively, he reached a paw out and tapped at the water. In the brief moment his paw hit the water, he could tell it was too strong for him. He would get swept away, over the mini-waterfall.
“I’ll just follow it then!” He said, and grimaced as the mud in between his toes began to harden. He trotted down the river, following its flow. It curved through the forest, and somewhere along that curve, he found a shallow, calm spot.
“Finally.” He said, stepping into the water. The armor of dried mud turned soft, and the current, however light it was, helped wash away the dirt. Feeling clean, and free from being muddy, he swatted at the water, being suddenly in a very kitten-like mood.

Runa had been walking idly towards water, thirsty from her travels. She had traveled down from the mountain; she'd felt like exploring the area beyond--the mountains had proved a nice adventure but the woodlands felt more like home for her. Her crimson fur glistened from her good upkeep as she picked up her pace to a trot, hearing the water draw nearer with each step.
Her ear twitched, picking up the sound of a splash. She continued her brisk trot but cautiously. She was hoping that it wasn't anything that would be a danger to her.
Moving out of the surrounding trees to a calm portion of water that looked like a large river, she saw another cougar. A male.
Runa's heart fluttered, and a purr escaped her lips unchecked. She wasn't sure, for once, what to say. It had been a long while since she had seen another cougar...

Milo continued his playing, oblivious to the female that had approached silently. Over the splashes of water, he heard the purr, and he stopped abruptly. His ears flicked, and his eyes wandered over her. The first female he had seen since he had made it to this place, and meeting one was like a breath of fresh air.
He remembered he was in the river still, and waded out. With a swift shake, he rid himself of the water, then made his way over to stand in front of the other cougar. "Hello, pretty." He said, a soft purr behind his words.

Runa barely suppressed the hot sensation of a blush from creeping up her cheeks as she heard the stranger say, "Hello, pretty," a purr behind his words as he addressed her.
As he had left the water to approach her, shaking himself off, Runa noticed that he was smaller than the usual cougar. This was unusual, but Runa did not care to comment; he was being friendly to her and the left over water droplets on his flank catching the light looked very fetching. Runa, despite being bigger than him, was impressed; size was not an issue at this point--she was at the peak of her sexual maturity, so honestly, she didn't care.
However, Runa managed to recover herself quickly enough to remember that he had spoken to her after all, and he required an answer. Collecting herself, she slid back into her usual seductive demeanor and said, a sensual tone to her words, "Hello yourself, handsome." She began to circle him, taking him all in as she asked, "I'm Runa. What might I call a fine specimen like you?"

He was pleased that she didn't mention his size, although it was quite hard to miss. That was a sensitive topic, his size, and he probably would snapped at her if she had said something.
Milo smiled, watched her circle him. "What a beautiful name. It fits the owner well. I'm Milo, pleasure to meet you, Runa." His eyes followed her body, as she moved around him. He couldn't believe his luck. He had been only looking for a good place to wash, and in turn, discovered a female that seemed attracted to him.
"Do you live around here, or just passing through?" He asked, curiously.
(ugh, my posts keep getting shorter...)

She was elated that he complimented her so, and feeling like a giddy pup she practically had to mentally scream at herself not to just pounce on him as he spoke. She was a sucker for compliments.
Runa let out a rumble from her throat that resembled a giggle. "I'm a little ways from here, on the edge of the woodlands. There are caves there, and I live in one very spacious and warm. Very...private. I love it."
He was smiling at her, and she was sure--by the way that his eyes were following her--that she held his attention. She could honestly not believe her fortune at finding this diamond in the rough, and a purr from her throat echoed every word she had spoken.
"Where do you live, sweet Milo?" She was in front of him now, right in front of him where he could not possibly ignore her. She sat, tail curling around her, the tip flicking restlessly as she tuned herself to his answer.

"Sounds nice." He replied, envious. "I don't really live anywhere quite yet. I come and go, and tend to change where I sleep every couple of days. I have yet to find the place to call home. But right now, the place I'm staying isn't that great...actually, its quite small, its an old badgers den." He wrinkled his nose. Badger was a horrible smell, although he had gotten used to it. The den didn't reek as bad as it had when he got there a couple of days ago too.
She wouldn't even have to make an effort for Milo to be totally intrigued. It didn't matter whether she was behind him, or right in front of him, his attention was centered on her. Of course, any female normally got his attention this much, but Runa seemed to draw it like a magnet.
"Maybe I'll come take a look at the cave. If there are caves there, I could always house there for a while." He smiled, his sharp teeth shining.

Runa smiled at him; he was focused on her, telling her that he did not currently have a place to live and he would not mind going to her caves and residing in one for a while. He said this with a wide smile, rays of the sun falling through the trees to sparkle in his teeth.
She made a small face when he was finished speaking, wrinkling her nose at the prospect of living with a badger. She did not like the concept at all.
"Please come and stay with the cave with me," she said, "Not for me, but for those poor accomodations. Besides, if you lived closer to me, we could have some fun," she winked, "it's been a while since I've had a good playdate...the females here are usually loners." This much was actually true; she had yet to encounter an overly friendly female.

He noticed her wrinkled nose. "The badgers long gone, but the stench always remains." He added, grimacing. He wasn't going to stay there long, since today he was actually looking for another home. There was always a problem, sometimes it was a territorial male, bad hunting, too noisy, too wet, or too small...
Milo listened intently to her offer, then purred his answer. "I think I'll have to take you up on your offer. Its not every day a gorgeous femme asks you to stay at her place." He was lucky today, to be fortunate to come across the female. "Most females are rather unfriendly. Kind of hard on the bachelors."
"So, what exactly is your cave like? I hope you don't mind me staying, although I think we'll both enjoy it."

Runa smiled, glad that she would be able to help out Milo, even if they had just met. Finding a proper place was hardin the woodlands, especially somewhere that fit your specific daily regimen.
"My cave..." she said, flicking her tail seductively, "Is only minutes from here. As you can see, it is close the part of the rapids that is slow enough to bathe in. It's very large--I'm sure that it was a bear cave at some point, though they cannot use it because the opening is so large and faces the outside. Nothing for my fur, though. There is a tunnel in the back, and it leads to somewhere really warm. I have conversed with the creatures there, and they call it...a Rainforest. Very pretty, I must tell you."
She gazed in the direction of her home only for a moment; she wasn't ready to draw her attention too far from Milo. "Because of the weather that we have here, and the other animals that stay in the forest, I must say, we're pretty cramped. Sometimes even the caves near me are occupied, though that mostly happens in the winter...I must tell you, my life in the woodlands has been very interesting...and nothing has been more interesting than meeting you..."
